The World Oceans Collection

The World Oceans Collection is a year-long collaboration between Van Dieman’s Ink and Pen Chalet, celebrating the vastness, diversity, and quiet power of the world’s oceans. Each release explores a single ocean or sea through colour, movement, and light, expressed in carefully formulated fountain pen inks.

Designed as a cohesive series, the collection pairs a unified nautical box with distinctive bottle labels that allow each ink to speak for itself. Flowing currents, shifting depths, and reflective shimmer echo the way oceans move and change, from tranquil shallows to immense, unknowable depths.

Every ink is handmade in Tasmania using distilled Tasmanian water, crafted to balance beauty with reliable everyday performance.

Southern Ocean

At the edge of the world, there is no stillness.

The Southern Ocean encircles Antarctica in an unbroken, restless current, where wind, water and ice move as one. It is the most isolated of oceans, yet among the most powerful, driving a constant exchange between the depths and the surface.

Here, colour is shaped by extremes. Deep, near-black blues give way to cold steel greys, glacial greens and sudden flashes of clarity where light cuts through ice-laden water. Storms pass without obstruction, and the sea is rarely calm for long.

It is a place of motion and pressure, of quiet brilliance beneath a harsh exterior. Life persists in unlikely forms, adapted to cold, darkness and distance.

Severe. Elemental. Unyielding.
The last ocean, circling the end of the world.

Patagonia

At the far southern edge of the Americas, land yields to wind, ice, and an ocean that never rests.

Patagonia is a place of stark contrasts. Glacial melt meets dark, mineral-rich waters, creating a cold, saturated blue-green that shifts with depth and light. The colour is dense yet alive, pooling into deeper tones while opening into softer teal where the current thins.

This ink captures that quiet intensity. A rich, oceanic teal with strong saturation and subtle shading, it moves between deep blue-green shadows and clearer, brighter passages across the page. On broader strokes, it reveals a layered character, reminiscent of submerged rock, shifting tides, and distant ice fields.

Calm at first glance, but carrying the weight of something vast beneath.
