Van Dieman’s Ink – Honey Bee (October 2025 Ink of the Month)

The honey bee is one of nature's most essential and beloved creatures, vital to ours and the entire world's survival. Here in Tasmania alone they are responsible for pollinating vast stretches of our orchards, berry farms, and wild native flora. From the clover fields of the Midlands to the manuka blooms of the east coast, bees sustain both our island’s ecology and our livelihoods. Their tireless work brings colour and sweetness to the world around us.

Inspired by these small but mighty pollinators, Honey Bee captures their brilliance and energy in liquid form.

This ink is a rich, highly saturated black with a copper sheen that gleams on premium papers such as Tomoe River and Midori. When diluted heavily with Van Dieman’s Fountain Pen Ink Diluter (at least 50:1), it reveals a multichromatic spectrum of cool greys, pinks, purples, blues greens and yellows, making it wonderfully versatile for both writing and art.

A bright golden shimmer runs through the ink, flashing with silver and greenish undertones when angled to the light, just like sunlight glinting off a bee’s wings or a spoon of fresh honey.
